Can You Use Zilch with Just Eat?

You can use Zilch with Just Eat. In fact, you can use the service — which lets you split purchases into four interest-free instalments, or earn 2% cashback on transactions paid in full — at any retailer that accepts MasterCard. This can be done in-store with Apple Pay or Google Pay, or online. You can also use a virtual card number at online retailers that don’t accept either of the popular mobile payment services.

How to Use Zilch with Just Eat

The easiest way to use Zilch with Just Eat with Apple Pay or Google Pay. Before you can do this, you will need to follow the prompts in the Zilch application to set up ‘Zilch Anywhere’, which will create a virtual card and store it in the mobile wallet. Otherwise you’ll need to open the application and load a virtual card each time you want to use the service at Just Eat (or another retailer, or even a rival like Deliveroo).

We recommend setting a default payment preference. You’ll find that Zilch now defaults to Pay in 1, which lets customers process their payment through the service in exchange for 2% cashback. But this doesn’t let you split the cost. Instead, you’ll want to go into the Settings screen of the Zilch App and choose Apple Pay Default or Google Pay Default, depending on the device you’re using, and set it to Pay in 4.

Keep in mind that all transactions processed through Pay in 4 will count towards your Zilch Credit Limit, so you’ll want to ensure you have enough money available before checking out — by default, anything spent over your limited will be billed at checkout. So if you’re spending £100, but only have £25 worth of credit available, your debit card on file will be charged £81.25 immediately.

This feature that lets you spend more than your available balance is called Boost, and can be turned off from the Settings screen.

Once that’s all set up, you can use Zilch with Just Eat using Apple Pay or Google Pay. Follow the steps to submit an order as you normally would, then select Apple Pay or Google Pay when you reach the checkout screen and choose Zilch from the list of cards, then complete the purchase. Your debit card will be debited the first instalment immediately. If it was declined, check you have enough money to cover it and try again.

Your other option is to create a virtual card through the Zilch application. To do this, select the merchant or enter the website domain and then choose how you want to pay (either Pay in 1 for 2% cashback or Pay in 4). You’ll then be presented with a virtual card that you can use when you reach checkout. You’ll need to use this long card number, expiry date and security code at the checkout page at Just Eat when you’re ready.
