How to Install Fonts in Figma

You have two options when it comes to using a custom font in Figma: You can either use a local font installed on the machine you’re using, or upload one to be used across all devices the software is used on, for all users. But there are some caveats: 1) You can’t access local fonts on a Chromebook; 2) You’ll need to be an Organization or an Enterprise user to install a font in Figma itself that’s also available to all collaborators.

Of course, there’s nothing to stop collaborators from installing the font on their machine first then accessing it as a local font in Figma if you’re looking to work with them on an asset that requires a custom typeface. This isn’t a scaleable solution if you’re rotating fonts or have a large amount of people working on a file, but for a small team it definitely beats signing up for an Organization or Enterprise account to save on costs.

How to Use Local Fonts in Figma

You shouldn’t need to do anything outside of installing the fonts on your machine to use a local font in Figma. The font library should be refreshed each time you restart Figma, so if you’ve just installed one while the software is running you’ll need to close it and open it again to use it. We’ve included some useful resources below that’ll teach you how to install a font on Mac or Windows if you need a refresher.
